Respect – Chapter 1, Page 4

The story continues with a speech in the village center. And no, the children dashing through the scene are not representative of my wife and me in days gone by. She still chases me.

Panel 1 Theodoric is mounting a wooden platform in front of the people (OP). Meinfrid and Gonzago are on the far side of Theodoric, who is in the foreground.

MFRID: LOOK, THEODORIC IS ABOUT TO SPEAK. COME, SURELY YOU WOULD LISTEN TO THE MOUTH OF THE BARON?
GONZ: HARDLY THE MOUTH.

Panel 2 Closeup of Theodoric from the side with the crowd in the background. He has on a leather cap and and appears expansive in his initial gesture. He is standing on the platform though we cannot see it. Unnamed person in crowd heckles a bit.

THEO1: WELCOME, EVERYONE. I BID…
PERSON: A GOOD START, THOUGH A BIT PLAIN.
THEO2: …YOU WELCOME IN THE NAME OF YOUR BARON, FRIDERIC.

Panel 3 We see a dozen people or so with a couple of kids chasing one another in front of the platform. Unnamed person off to the side (different one) is talking back to Theodoric.

THEO: A BRAVE, GENEROUS MAN, FRIDERIC IS HOLDING THIS FEAST FOR YOUR BENEFIT. WELL HE KNOWS THE PRIVATIONS YOU SUFFERED OVER THE WINTER PAST.
PERSON: AYE, BUT DO YOU?

Panel 4 Two-shot up of man in the crowd who just spoke and Theodoric. Tone is level, not directly disrespectful.

THEO: HAVE YOU NO RESPECT FOR THE BARON?
PERSON: HE’S WORTHY OF IT.

Panel 5 Back to Theodoric in a tight shot, who appears to control himself. He’s just been indirectly insulted and chafes a bit as a result. Crowd is OP.

THEO: AS I WAS SAYING, WE’RE TO HAVE A FEAST…
CROWD: YEA! (GENERAL CHEERS) LET’S ON WITH IT!

Panel 6 View of Theodoric from directly in front (from the crowd’s POV).

THEO: …AS SOON AS THE BARON SHOWS UP WITH THE MEAT. DO NOT FAIL TO THANK HIM BEFORE HIS DEPARTURE ON THE MORROW.
